Douglas R. Cooper, 72

SURGOINSVILLE - Douglas R. Cooper, 72, of 535 Amis Chapel Road, passed away Monday, (November 11, 2002) at 2:00 p.m. at the Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol following an extended illness.

Mr. Cooper was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was a member of the Amis Chapel United Methodist Church. He retired in 1991 from Holston Defense with 28 years of service.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dee & Mollie Calton Cooper. two brothers, J.D. Cooper and Cecil Cooper.

Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Rhoten Cooper of the home, adopted son, Fayne Cooper of Surgoinsville; adopted daughters, Susan Chambers and Stacie Looney both of Surgoinsville, grand daughter, Sydney Chambers of Surgoinsville. Two sisters and brothers-in-law, Imogene and Hugh Ratledge of Church Hill; Mary Lena and Jack Altom, Rogersville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Kay Cooper, Church Hill; Haynes and Juanita Cooper, Surgoinsville; and Robert and Betty Cooper, Surgoinsville; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Calling hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.

Funeral services will be conducted 8:00 pm Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Lane, Rev. Bill Porter, Rev. Rick Vanoy and Rev. Mike Cutshaw officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 am Thursday at the Bethel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be, Roy Cooper, Haynes Cooper, Robert Cooper, Fayne Cooper, Hugh Dean Ratledge and Kevin Cooper.

Honorary pallbearers will be, Jack Altom, Gale Holt, Boot Armstrong, Kenneth Henderson and Donald Henderson.
