Ewell was a rancher and had worked for Dierks Lumber Mill. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Broken Bow. Ewell was a devout Christian and loved his church. In 1938 he was appointed to the church's board of deacons, and continued to serve for 45 years. His tenure of service still stands as a record today.
He enjoyed going to the Broken Bow Nutrition Center, where he visited with his many friends. Ewell always raised several large gardens from which he sold vegetables as well as gave many away. He had lived in this area since 1932 moving from Gillham, Arkansas.
Ewell was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Letha Swift in 2002; a son, Gerald Swift in 2001; 2 sisters; and 3 brothers.
Ewell is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Violet Swift of Broken Arrow, and T.L. "Son" and Loyce Swift of Broken Bow; daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Fairland Herring of Broken Arrow; a daughter-in-law, Carol Swift of Broken Bow; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Ellavee Swift of Texarkana, and Henry "Hank" and Lucy Swift of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
