A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, September 3 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 2 and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 3 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose.
Paul Thomas Spaeth was born April 6, 1938, in Melrose, the son of Henry and Rose (Dold) Spaeth. He married Jeanette "Nettie" Loecken July 6, 1957, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose, and together they raised three wonderful children. Paul's greatest love was his wife and his family.
Paul started Spaeth Sodding & Landscaping close to 50 years ago, which include selling Christmas trees. He was honored to dig graves for people in the community for over 40 years, which he took great pride in. He loved helping people in every way.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Nettie; children, Kim Brickweg, Rick (Cathryn) Spaeth, and Sara (John) Olmscheid, all of Melrose; grandchildren, Jessica (Josh) Nieters, Luke Olmscheid and Samuel Olmscheid; great-grandchildren, Ava and Jaxon Olmscheid; and siblings, Hank Spaeth, Nancy Illies and Charles Spaeth.
Paul was preceded in death by parents, Henry and Rose Spaeth; grandson, Jeremy Brickweg; two sisters and three brothers.
