Daniel Steven Rumble, 65, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at his home in Richmond, surrounded by his loved ones.
Danny is survived by his wife, Nancy Snook Rumble; son, Matthew Rumble; daughter, Megan Rumble Nolan (Casey and grandson Miles); brother, Richard Rumble Jr. (Mary Louise); sisters Rebecca Skotty (Rodney) and Laura Slater (Robert); sister-in-law Carlyn Snook (Daniel Young); and sister-in-law Lisa Snook vanAntwerpen (Rik); as well as other beloved family members and friends. Danny also cherished his close relationships with his numerous nieces and his nephew.
Danny was born in Columbus, Ohio on May 10,1957, to the late Admiral Richard E. and Bernice B. Rumble. Growing up as the son of a career naval officer, Danny moved frequently but considered Virginia Beach to be his home. There he attended Norfolk Academy – and spent his free time surfing with his older brother Richard.
In 1976, Danny left the beach and headed to the mountains of Blacksburg to attend Virginia Tech, where he met the love of his life, Nancy. Danny pledged the fraternity Delta Kappa Epsilon, where lifelong friendships were forged. After graduation, Danny and Nancy married at Bruton Parish on May 29, 1982.
Danny began his career with Ferguson Enterprises in Baton Rouge. As he progressed in his career, they made several moves, with Jacksonville, Florida being their home for 25 years and where they raised their children. Danny loved spending weekends on the golf course with Matt, shooting free throws in the driveway with Megan, and walks on the beachfront with Nancy.
Never fearing an adventure (and knowing that everything is bigger in Texas!) Danny and Nancy relocated to Fort Worth in 2014 so Danny could pursue a new career opportunity. In 2019, they moved to Richmond to be closer to their aging parents and extended family. At that time, Danny retired after a career of 37 years. The friendships that were made – from Baton Rouge to North Carolina to Jacksonville to Fort Worth – were friendships that were deep and lasted a lifetime, and these friends continued to support the Rumble family up until his passing.
Danny was passionate about life and put his all into every task, large or small. On the flip side, he was usually the life of the party. He was competitive, but loved with his whole heart. He never met a stranger. He had the ability to make you feel like you were the only person in the room, and always wanted to know what was going on in your life. He made the bad times bearable, and the good times memorable. He was a deeply loyal friend and co-worker, a committed and loving husband and father, and he loved nothing more than spending time with his family. During his cancer treatment, he remained hopeful and upbeat -- and never saw the need for self-pity. He leaves behind an enormous legacy.
Second only to his love of family was his love of his sports teams – and he was a loyal fan. He was undaunted by traveling from Jacksonville to Blacksburg and setting up a tailgate to cheer on the Hokies. If not the Hokies, you'd find him watching the Red Sox, the Celtics or the Bruins, or attending Jaguar games with his Ferguson co-workers.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church, 201 W Duke of Gloucester Street, Williamsburg, Va. 23185.
Following the service, a reception will be held at the Bruton Parish House.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bon Secours Hospice and Palliative Care, 8580 Magellan Parkway Suite 200, Richmond VA 23227.
