Enjoyed her trip to the White Mountains every fall

PORTSMOUTH - Alice E. (Bixby) Ford, 94, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth,

She was born in Wilmot, Nov. 3, 1911, the daughter of William D. and Mabel (Clay) Bixby.

Spending her early years in Wilmot, she attended Proctor Academy in Andover. Mrs. Ford moved to Cape Neddick, Maine, in 1940 and resided there for 63 years.

She was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed gardening, cooking and travel. She and her husband traveled across the United States several times, had been to Hawaii and enjoyed an excursion to the White Mountains every fall.

Mrs. Ford also kept up with local state and national politics and enjoyed a lively conversation about various candidates with friends and family.

She had been a Brownie leader and a member of the Ladies Circle at her Cape Neddick church. Mrs. Ford had been a hostess and waitress during the summer season at Wheeler's Inn in Cape Neddick.

She was also an 82-year member of the North Wilmot Congregational Church.

Her husband of 58 years, Crosby D. Ford, died in 1987.

Members of her family surviving include a daughter, Betty A. Ford of Cape Neddick, Maine; a son, Richard E Ford of Brattleboro, Vt.; two grandchildren, Richard B. Ford of Maynard, Mass., and Elaina F. Hume of Alton, four great-grandchildren, Paul, Michael, Nina and Isaac; and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will not be held.

Memorial services will be held April 22 at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Wilmot Center where Mrs. Ford's nephew, the Rev. David Randlett, will officiate.

Burial will be held at Riverview Cemetery in Barnstead.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the North Wilmot Congregational Church, c/o Fred Ogmundson, 37 Breezy Hill Road, Wilmot 03287.

Chadwick Funeral Home in New London is in charge of the arrangements.
