Pauline Alma Martha Herr was born September 25, 1917, in rural Adair County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Henry M. and Edna (Baudler) Herr. She attended rural school in Jackson Township. Pauline cared for many families in the area, helped deliver babies and cleaned homes. On September 25, 1942, she was united in marriage to Henry Bohling. They made their home on several farms in the Fontanelle area. They were members of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle.
Henry and Pauline had three sons, Wayne Al, Don Elton and Lynn Eugene. Henry "Hank" died from cancer on July 6 1965, and is buried in the Fontanelle cemetery. Pauline and her sons moved to Fontanelle. Don married Mardelle Snell of Greenfield and they had twin sons, Michael David and Mark Elton. Michael died the same day he was born and is buried in the Fontanelle cemetery. Lynn married Elaine Stumbo of Ogden. They have three children, De Etta, Natalie and Hank. Wayne is single and lives in an A-frame home in Fontanelle, which he designed.
On August 9, 1976, Pauline married Sam Mitchell in Fontanelle, Iowa. Through this union she gained three grown stepchildren, Leila Zike, Ralph and Jack, and all of their families. Sam died August 7, 1978, and is buried in the Fontanelle Cemetery. Pauline died October 19, 1998, in Des Moines, Iowa, and was buried in the Fontanelle cemetery.
