Charlie E. Hornsby

Mr. Charlie E. Hornsby, 87, of Pluto Road, Shady Spring, died SAturday, Sept. 2, 2000 at his home following a long illness.

Born Sept, 8, 1912 at Winding Gulf, he was the son of the late James and Mary Burks Hornsby. Mr. Hornsby was a retired coal miner and was a member of the Cool Ridge Community Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Freda M. Carr Hornsb y and by two daughters, Anna Lee Tolliver and Virginia Hornsby.

Survivors nine sons, Joseph Hornsby and wife Joyce of Ghent, Charles Hornsby and wife Stella of Grafton, Va., Kenneth Hornsby and wife Bonnie of West Point, Va., Jimmy Hornsby and wife Joyce of Pluto Road, Gary Hornsby and wife Brenda of Rock Hill, SC., Teddy Hornsby and wife Toni of Eccles, Tex Hornsby and wife Gaye of Pluto Road with whom he was making his home, Thomas Hornsby and wife Shelia of Mechanicsville, Va., Larry Hornsby and wife Tina of Cool Ridge; two daughters, Barbara Rose and husband Ronnie of Cool Ridge, Betty McGraw and husband Barry of Grandview; stepson Orville Arbogast of Cleveland, Ohio, one brother, Tom Hornsby of Newark, NY; two sisters, Polly McBride of Fireco and Piney McBride of (Chatsworth), Il; 35 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel with the Revs. Harold Taylor and Oppie Lilly officiating.

Burial will follow at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
