Bernard Joseph Cribbins was an English actor and singer born in Oldham, United Kingdom, the son of John Edward Cribbins & Ethel Clarkson. He was best known for his role in "The Railway Children" and as narrator in "Doctor Who".

Cribbins left school at the age of 13 and became an assistant stage manager at a club in town. At the age of 14, he was a student player at the Oldham Coliseum Theatre. He made his debut in "A Comedy of Errors" (1956) leading to many small roles in films. By his 20s, Cribbins had successfully established a name for himself in London. His success led him to roles such as his "Carry On" series, star of the ITV series "Cribbins" which aired from 1969 to 1970, as well as voiceovers for cartoons such as "Doctor Who". Cribbins was awarded the General Service Medal for his service in Palestine with 2/3 Battalion. In 2011, he was appointed OBE for his works in drama. He married Gillian McBarnet in 1955, the couple remained married up until Gillian's death in 2021.
