Sigurd, Utah - Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend Mearl Ruby Smith passed peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2022 in Richfield, Utah. She was born July 15, 1947, in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, the daughter of Charles Zeb and Mearl Ethel Mowers Capell.

Ruby graduated from Grace High School in 1966. She married Richard Max Smith in the Logan Utah Temple on July 14, 1967. She continued her education at a business college in Boise. She later returned to school at Sevier Valley Tech and completed classes in Accounting and Shorthand Writing.

They had seven sons and later divorced. Their children include Timothy (Terri) of Boise, Idaho; Christopher (Jenny) of Oak Harbor, Ohio; Elis Sivell (deceased); John (Trina) of Annabella, Utah; Thayne (Koalani) of Tooele, Utah; Hyrum (April) of Sigurd, Utah; Robert (Jessica) of Snowflake, Arizona. Her family includes 45 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. Ruby's greatest joy in life was watching her boys grow up to be men.

Ruby loved her job working at Larsen's Ace Hardware for many years before moving to Grace Idaho to care for her parents in their final years. Later, Ruby returned to her home in Sigurd where she took a job at the Richfield Rehabilitation Center. She was a lifelong devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Ruby is preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Mearl Capell; her brother, Thomas Charles Capell; her sister, Rhoda Hopkins; her son, Elis Sivell Smith; her daughter-in-law, Tammy Smith; and her grandchildren: Jaden Titus Smith, Tyson Hyrum Smith, Brayden John Smith, Sydney Smith, Lyric Smith, Harley Smith, Sparrow Smith, River Smith, and Journey Smith.

A special thanks to the many caregivers who so kindly provided care to our sweet Mother at the Richfield Rehabilitation and Care Center.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, September 24 in the Sigurd Cemetery. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel, 260 North 400 West in Richfield on Friday, September 23 from 7-8:00 P.M. and from 10-11:00 A.M. the morning of the services.

Burial will be under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Homes of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
