Massey, Joseph, manufacturer; born at Pine Plains, N. Y., March 2, 1857; son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Yates) Massey; educated in public schools of Pine Plains: married at East Springfield, Pa., Dec. 31, 1890, to Josephine Marcy. Assistant superintendent School for Feeble Minded, Lakeville, Conn., for 10 years; assistant superintendent School for Feeble Minded, Faribault, Minn., 18 years; proprietor Northfield Knitting Co. since 1902. Republican. Baptist. Mason, Knights Templar, Shriner. Club: Commercial. Recreation: Hunting and fishing. Address: Northfield, Minn.
My father told a story of his family traveling to Northfield MN from Connecticut, not knowing why they traveled to Northfield. Turns out they were coming to visit Joseph Massey. Come full circle I moved to Northfield MN in the 5th grade (my parents had no idea a relative had lived here). As I did my research I learned Mr Massey owned the Northfield Knitting Co and the Nutting Block Building and was a prominent businessman. My first business was in the Nutting Block (I was also a prominent businesswoman in Northfield! Joseph and Josephine had a house built for them in Northfield by Laura Baker (of the Laure Baker School) and turns out I lived in the house! Then when we went to find the graves in Faribault Mn (we had never been to this grave yard before) we stepped out of the car and stepped on the headstone! I guess I was meant to research and discover the similarities between Massey's and my family!
