J.B. was born in Conway, Arkansas to Sam and Cora Wilson Sheofee and was a 1945 graduate of Conway High School. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Central Arkansas, formerly the Arkansas State Teacher's College, where he received a Bachelor's degree and two Master's degrees in education. J.B. then completed his Doctorate degree at the University of Mississippi and began his teaching career at Tuckerman High School where he taught from 1950-1956. J.B. taught at Blytheville High School from 1956-1964 and then went on to become a professor at Arkansas State University from 1964-1987. He was of the Church of Christ faith and preached at Dell and in Rector in Arkansas, and later went on the preach at Boone's Chaple in Kennett, Missouri and Cardwell, Missouri.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Burleene Brinn Sheofee; and brothers, Farris, Oscar and James Sheofee.
J.B. is survived by his sisters, Dorothy Graham of Roswell, Georgia and Mary Shimkus of Conway, Arkansas; a special niece and caregiver, Lori Thaxton of Blytheville; and a host of nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Main and 13th Street Church of Christ with Mr. Dwight Harrison and Mr. Bill Cathey officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
