Niemer, William A.

William A. Niemer, age 65, of Manitowoc, died Thursday afternoon, May 26, 2011, at Aurora Baycare Medical Center of Green Bay.

Bill was born on May 16, 1946, in Manitowoc, son of the late Ambrose and Helen (Fierst) Niemer. He was a 1964 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. Bill received an associate degree in Materials Management from Lakeshore Technical College. He was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1968. Bill was a paint line inspector for the Kelvinator Company in Manitowoc. Bill was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Disabled American Veterans, and a founding member of Vietnam Veterans Chapter #731 of Manitowoc.

Survivors include his twin brother: Robert Niemer, Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law: Ken (Lisa) Niemer, Clintonville; three granddaughters: Hannah, Savanah, and Serena Niemer; two nieces and their husbands: Deb (Jim) Hunt, Whitelaw; Teri (John) Horstketter, Manitowoc. Other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded death by his parents: Ambrose and Helen Niemer, one son: Jim Niemer; one brother and sister-in-law: Jon (Eve) Niemer; one niece: Alicia Niemer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3209 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc. Rev. Robert Kujawski and Rev. Stephen Melso will officiate with cremation to follow and entombment of his cremated remains in the Knollwood Mausoleum. Vietnam Veterans Chapter #731 of Manitowoc will accord military graveside rites. Relatives and friends may call at the Jens Family Funeral Home, 1122 South 8th Street, Manitowoc, on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations in Bill's name would be appreciated for Bethany Evangelical Lutheran church.
