Clarence E. "Mac" McDaniel, 88, passed away February 2, 2008, at Brewster Place.

Mac was born in Michigan Valley, KS on January 18, 1920 to Charley E. and Sophie (Supple) McDaniel. He was the youngest of four sons.

Mac graduated from Michigan Valley High School and attended Washburn University.

He married Maxine Henry October 19, 1941.

Mac enlisted in the US Army and served during W.W. II with F Company, 358th Regiment, 90th Infantry Division under General George Patton. Mac fought in the Battle of the Bulge, went up against the Seigfried Line and participated in the liberation of the Flossenberg Concentration Camp. The 358th was the first to cross into Czechoslovakia. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

After the war, Mac attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK. He worked for Puritan-Bennett Compressed Gas, Kansas City, MO, as an Industrial Mechanic until his retirement in 1985.

Mac did volunteer work for the American Red Cross and the Colmery-ONeil VA Medical Center.
He was a member of University United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Wilbur, Lloyd and Henry; and grandson, Ben Koffler.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine, of the home; daughters Linda Thomas and husband, Tyrone; Nancy DeBacker, of Topeka; son, Ross McDaniel and wife, Angela, Omaha, NE; grandchildren Cadie Maas and husband, Mike; Gus Koffler, of Topeka; Miranda and Grant McDaniel, Omaha; and great granddaughter Kailee Koffler, Norfolk, VA.
