John Henry Bohling was born in Brussels, Rhode Island, Jan. 20th, 1859, and died at his home in Adair Co. Iowa, June 14, 1899 aged 40 years, 4 months and 25 days.
When but a small boy he moved with his parents to Illinois and at the age of 12 years moved with his parents to Iowa where he has since resided.
On Oct. 7th he was united in holy matrimony to Hannah Christina Stammer, who with him has shared the struggles and joys of life for nearly 18 years, and who with her three children are left behind to mourn the loss of a loving husband and an affectionate father. But not alone does she bear this great loss, for today as Oddfellows, neighbors and friends we desire that she should feel the strength and the depth of our sympathy.
Bro. Bohling, was initiated into the mysteries of Oddfellowship Dec. 9, 1895, since which time he has proven himself to be a true Oddfellow, worthy of our respect and confidence as a brother. He will be missed in the home by wife and children, he will be missed in the community as a citizen and neighbors, and he will be equally missed in our lodge room. His seat will be vacant, but he himself shall live in the heart and memory of every brother of the I. O. O. F. who knew him.
The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon June 15th, from the family residence conducted by Rev. J.W. Kelly and the Fontanelle lodge of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, of which he was an honored member. A large concourse of people followed the remains to their last resting place, where the impressive ritual of Oddfellowship was conducted. In this sad bereavement, the afflicted family has the deep sympathy of the entire community.
