William Francis Gallaway, Sr. was born September 9, 1867 in Baltimore, Baltimore County, Maryland. He earned his Ph.D. in classical Greek from Johns Hopkins University. William was married to Valesca "Vallie" Adeline Miller Riley Gallaway, and they had two children: William Francis Gallaway, Jr. and Romagna Adeline Gallaway Mackie. William and Vallie were school teachers, and William became a principal. He died at age 73 on May 7, 1941 in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia and is buried in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah. A collection of his letters is at the University of North Carolina library in Chapel Hill. I hope one of his descendants will add his photo to this site.
