Death Takes Dr. J.F. Abel

Dr. James Frederick Abel, for many years a prominent Nevada educator, died in Humbodlt General Hospital in Winnemucca Friday from the effects of a stroke.

Dr. Abel born in Paradise Valley 80 years ago, was graduated from University of Nevada in 1901, served the next three years as elementary school principal in Elko then moved to Winnemucca elementary and high school principal-ships in 1905-06. He served as deputy superintendent of pulic instruction for eight years, then became a regent at the University of Nevada serving as chairman of the board from 1917 to 1919.

After earning his master's degree in education from Stanford University in 1920, Dr. Abel entered federal service in the rural education field of the interior department. He was awarded a doctor of philosophy degree by George Washington University in 1942.

Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Florence J. Lowry of Winnemucca and a brother, David of Los Angeles.

Funeral serviced will be conducted by the Masonic lodge Monday at 2 p.m. in Winnemucca.
