Alice R. (Skiendziel) Skiengel, 91, a lifelong resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Thursday morning, September 29, 2022, at the Highland Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Exeter, where she was a guest for the past few days.

Born on May 14, 1931, in Swoyersville, Alice was one of fifteen children born to the late Victor Skiendziel and Victoria Witek Skiendziel.

Alice was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1949. She then went on to study nursing at College Misericordia, now Misericordia University, Dallas, eventually finishing her education as a registered nurse at Saint Joseph's School of Nursing, Philadelphia. Later, she went on to attain her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from College Misericordia, Dallas.

Prior to her retirement, Alice was employed as the nursing coordinator for Home-Health Services of Luzerne County/Visiting Nurses Association, formerly of Edwardsville. In her earlier years, she was employed as a registered nurse for Saint Joseph's Hospital, Hazleton, and Nesbitt Memorial Hospital, Kingston, serving for some years as the nursing supervisor of the hospital's cardiac unit.

Alice was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville, where, as a young woman, she held membership with the church's Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. Following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.

A woman of many enjoyments, Alice especially enjoyed cooking and baking for her loved ones; working crossword puzzles; and playing bingo. She was also an avid football fan, always looking forward to watching the games on television.

Alice was the caregiver of her large family, and she selflessly gave of herself without ever expecting anything in return. She will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted sister, aunt, and friend. Although her presence will be deeply missed, there is much comfort in knowing that she has found peace with her Lord in Heaven, reunited with all her family and friends who were patiently awaiting her homecoming.

In addition to her parents, Victor and Victoria Skiendziel, Alice was preceded in death by her brothers, infant Joseph Skiendziel, Frank Skiendziel, Joseph E. Skiendziel, John Skiendziel, and Walter Skiengel; her sisters, Helen Skiengel, Victoria Golden, Stella Meckalavage Songaila, Mary Gavlick, Genevieve Bonomo, Amelia Granda, and Arlene Skiengel.

Alice is survived by her sisters, Sister Cynthia Skiendziel O.S.F. and Sister Melita Skiendziel O.S.F., both of Saint Thomas More Convent, Allentown; as well as generations of nieces and nephews.

Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Monday, October 03, 2022, at 9:30 AM, from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Father Joseph J. Pisaneschi, her Pastor, officiating.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Family and Friends are invited to Alice's viewing which will be held on Sunday, October 02, 2022, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, and again on Monday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 AM, at the funeral home.
