Faye Marion LaVarnway, 92, of Manitowoc passed away on September 21, 2022 at Shady Lane in Manitowoc. Faye was born on July 13, 1930 in Iron Mountain, MI to Ragner and Loretta (Stoikes) Hanson. She was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School. On June 20, 1953 she married James "Fuzz" LaVarnway, Sr., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on February 25, 2005. Faye was a receptionist at Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc, until 1986 when she began taking care of her grandchildren. Faye was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Faye and Jim served as president and vice president of the A.M.I (Alliance for the Mentally Ill) now known as N.A.M.I. Over the years, Faye enjoyed golfing, knitting, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Faye is survived by one son: Jim LaVarnway, Jr.; one daughter: Janet (Bob) Bonin; grandchildren: Ashley (Dan) Stroik, Kyle (Nicole) Bonin, and Samantha (Austin) VanSteenburgh; great-grandchildren: Easton Bonin, Wesley and Zander VanSteenburgh, and baby Bonin due in March; two sisters: Jean Hinz, and Sharon (Richard) Toth; and one sister-in-law: Noleen LaVarnway. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Faye was preceded in death by her parents: Ragner and Loretta Hanson; husband: Jim "Fuzz" LaVarnway; parents-in-law: Harold and Alice LaVarnway; sisters: Sister Loretta Jean Hanson, OP, Belva Hanson, and Colleen (John) Schmitt; brother: Robert (Pat) Hanson; and brother-in-law: Tom Hinz. A memorial service to celebrate Faye's life will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 6:00pm at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, 928 S.14th Street. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Friday, October 7, 2022 at the funeral home from 4:00pm until the time of service at 6:00pm. Burial of Cremains will take place at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc.
