Eugene married Catherine Mary McCole and they were parents of four children.
Eugene entered WWI service Chicago, III., June 5, 1917. Co. F, 13th Railroad Engineers, Independent Company. Served with 2nd and 4th French Armies under Generals Gouard and Petain. Regiment decorated with Croix de Guerre by French. With 4th Army in battle of Champagne sector; 2nd Army in battle of Verdun, St. Mihiel and Meuse.

Discharged May 15, 1919, Camp Grant, Ill. Attained rank of private.
