He was the son of Cornelius McCurtain and Amy Mahayia (Belvin) McCurtain. He married Susan King, Harriet Austin and Clarissa LeFlore. He served in the Civil War as 2nd Lieutenant in the First Regiment of CO. G. Choctaw and Chickasaw Mounted Rifles.

(Edmund & Susan (King) were my Great Great Grand parents,their daughter Polina married John Walker White and their youngest child Lizzie married George William McLain, they had two children; Pocahontas & my dad George Walter. [by Susan])
