Dorothy Jane Warren Nisbet unexpectedly passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Cookeville, TN early Saturday morning, September 24, 2022. She lived completely until she died.

Dorothy Jane Warren was born in Lexington, Kentucky to Noah Julian Warren and Dorothy Clause Warren on July 15, 1931. Her father was a Presbyterian minister and she spent her early life in Shelbyville, Tennessee and completed her secondary education in Selma, Alabama. After graduating from Albert G. Parrish High School in 1949, she attended Alabama College, State College for Women in Montevallo, AL, transferring to Montreat College (NC) where she graduated in 1953.

Dorothy Jane married John B. Nisbet, Jr. (whom she initially met while in high school at Synod of Alabama Youth events and then dated during college) on June 6, 1956. After their wedding in Selma, the couple settled in Jacksonville, ALabama in John B.'s ancestral home. Dorothy Jane was a force of nature in Jacksonville and spoke her mind without hesitation; in Jacksonville she raised 3 children to adulthood while helping John B. become involved in local politics. She thrived in Jacksonville, was a member of the Inter Se Study Club, the Jacksonville Garden Club and the Presbyterian Women of the Church. Throughout her life she did award winning needlepoint and knitted numerous afghans and prayer shawls. In 2015, she co-authored the Images of America book Jacksonville. Dorothy Jane ultimately restored the family home at 310 Ladiga into her own. She lived in Jacksonville until health issues forced her to move first to Peachtree City, GA to be near her daughter Nancy and her husband, Jim and ultimately living in Cookeville, TN with her son John and his wife, Sidonie.

During the Pandemic, her proficiency with computers allowed her to settle into life in Cookeville and First Presbyterian Church were she attended Sunday School via Zoom and services by broadcast.

Dorothy Jane was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Margaret Ann Warren Glad Terry and Nancy Warren Hinson and a niece, Catherine Hinson. She is survived by her sister; her 3 children; 6 grandchildren and 10 nieces and 5 nephews.

A Celebration of Life for Dorothy Jane will be held on November 12, 2022 at 11 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Cookeville officiated by Rev. Michael McLaughlin (with pajama church broadcast on the church's YouTube channel). A second Celebration of Life will be held in late May or June 2023 at First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, AL officiated by Rev. Karen L. Veasey. Internment of her ashes will be in the Jacksonville City cemetery next to her husband in the Nisbet family plot.

As a Christian saved by God's grace, toward the end of her life she longed to be reunited with those who went before her to begin her eternal life with God. To the Church triumphant.
