He was ordained a priest in 1871 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Rev. Lawrence J. Wall was appointed First Assistant at St. Dominic's Church in the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia on June 22d, 1872, and succeeded to the rectorship, October 18th, 1876. He enlarged the pastoral residence, laid out the cemetery, established a convent for the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters, built a parochial school building and greatly improved the church. He remained at St. Dominic's until his death in 1926. He is buried at the Church Cemetery.
Both his nephew, Rev. Patrick F. Fogarty, and grand nephew, Rev. James R. Fogarty, followed him into the priesthood.
Newspaper accounts of the era indicate that Rev. Wall was a well known and popular priest of the era. In addition St. Katherine Drexel mentioned that Rev. Wall was one of the people who influenced her into entering the convent.
