Mr. Ames was born in Georgetown, June 17, 1867, a son of the late Henry R. and Adelaide Barber Ames.
He was graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 1894 and was one of the first licensed pharmacists in Syracuse, his first employment being in the former Dwight store in the old State Tower building.
Within a few years after his marriage to Lillian Belle Miner in Syracuse, June 28, 1894, he was forced by illness to retire from the drug business. At that time Mr. Ames returned to work as a prescription pharmacist and had been employed at various downtown drugstores since. He had been employed by the Larned & Barker company for the past two years.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Charles F. Ames, a member of the reportorial staff of the Post-Standard; and three brothers, G. Ray Ames of Tully, Grant H. Ames of Homer and Warner M. Ames of Solsville.
Funeral services were held at the Cornell, Clement & Greenleaf parlors, 503 West Onondaga street, at 3 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Ellsworth Reamon, pastor of Betts Memorial Universalist Church, officiating. Burial was made in Manlius cemetery.
