Obituary N.J. Pryor according to The Sisseton Weekly Standard on Friday, February 25, 1921 (www.newspapers.com)
Norman Jasper Pryor, son of Leonard and Catherine Pryor, was born at Warren, Vermont, Jan. 6, 1839, and died at Sisseton, S. Dakota, Feb. 16, 1921, age 82 years, 1 month and 10 days.
When ten years of age he moved with his parents to Baraboo, Wis. where they resided 6 years, moving from there to Wabasha co., Minn. At the outbreak of the war of the rebellion, he was one of the first to heed his country's call, volunteering in the 3rd Minn. Regiment, serving his country faithfully for nearly two years, when he was discharged for disability.
In 1863 he was united in marriage to Miss Lucy Ellen Potter. Ten children blessed this union, seven of them are still living. Johnny died in 1910, in Sisseton, one other son succumbed to black diphtheria at the age of eighteen and another child died when small. Those who survive are Mrs. A. S. Baker, of Willmar Minn.; Wm. J. of Yakima, Wash.; Chas E. of Millarton, N. D.; Mrs. Hanna, of Canada; Mrs. Wm. Hill, of Endicott, N. Y.; Mrs. A. C. Swenson of Sisseton.
In 1884 the Pryors moved to Troy, S. D., where they resided until 1877 when they came to Sisseton which has since been the home of the deceased. In 1911, the wife and mother died. Since that time Mr. Pryor made his home with his daughter, Mrs. C. A. Swenson. He was a member of the G. A. R. and K. of P. The funeral was held Friday at the M. E. church, of which he was a member. Rev Gough officiated and the obsequies were conducted with military honors, the flag draped casket being tenderly borne to its last resting place in the Sisseton cemetery.
Mr. Pryor was quiet, unassuming man but one who always had a pleasant word of greeting for every one. He spent a great deal of time at his son-in-law's store, and will be missed by all who were accustomed to seeing him there. Altho he had passed the four score mark he carried his age well and no one wuld have believed him a man over sixty. He had been engaged in various business enterprises about town and it was with regret that age forced him to abandon these. During his illness he was most faithfully cared for by his daughter Mrs. Swenson and others of his children who could be with him.
Those present at the funeral were Chas Brown, of Henley Falls, Minn., B. L. Pryor, of Troy, S. D., Chas Pryor, of Millarton, N. D., Mrs. Wm. Hill, of Endicott, N. Y. and Mrs. W. W. Anderson, of Edgely, N. D.
