Dr. Irl Thomas Alexander, Jr. (Tommy), 81, passed away at his home in Corinth on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, after an extended illness. He was surrounded by his family.
Dr. Alexander was born March 26, 1941, in Jackson, TN, and grew up in Corinth. After graduating from Corinth High School in 1959, he enrolled at the University of Mississippi where he met his wife, Nancy. Both were interested in the field of medicine, and together, they went to the University of Mississippi School of Medicine where Tommy trained as a doctor and Nancy as a medical technologist. The couple married on December 23,1962, and returned to Jackson and their studies. Dr. Alexander graduated in May 1966 and chose to pursue the field of obstetrics and gynecology. After serving in the U.S. Army at Ft. Belvoir, VA, Dr. Alexander returned to Corinth in 1971 where he served the area as an obstetrician/gynecologist for over 40 years. During that time, he delivered countless babies and provided care for women of all ages in the Alcorn County area. He also served as Chief of Staff of Magnolia Hospital, and served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Magnolia Regional Health Center for 27 years.

Tommy approached everything that he did with passion, but he was especially passionate about the University of Mississippi. He and his wife, Nancy, supported Ole Miss athletics for over 50 years both through their presence and through financial gifts. His family remembers many of their happiest family times as following the Rebels wherever they played. His love of sports extended to Corinth High School as well, where he played multiple sports as a teen and continued to support developing athletes throughout his life. Tommy also loved golf and hunting, and he and Nancy shared a love of fishing and gardening.

Tommy Alexander is survived by four daughters, Kimberly Dawn Alexander, Deborah Alexander Baugus (Mike), Dana Alexander Laurie (Matt), and Dyana Alexander Gates (Kenny); seven grandchildren, Alexander Leigh Byrd Mascagni, Kaleb Scott Byrd (Holly), Michael Taylor Baugus, Aiden Thomas Laurie, Ashlyn Kathleen Laurie, Jordan Grace Gates, and Madison Claire Gates; a nephew, William Stine (Alice); a niece, Rebecca Stine; a grandnephew, Trae Stine (Erin); his brother-in-law, Tommy Stine; and was anticipating the birth of his first great-grandchild.

Tommy was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Nancy; his parents, Irl and Dorothy Alexander, and his sister Lynn Stine.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm at Henry Cemetery on Friday, October 14, 2022, with David Curry officiating. Tommy Stine will share the scripture, and William Stine will lead the prayer.
