Julia Florence Behnke, age 83, a Manitowoc resident, entered into eternal life on April 27th, 2013 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center in Manitowoc.
Julia was born on October 13th, 1929 in Kaukauna, Outagamie County to the late William and Ella (Marzofka) Schmitz. She attended Park School in Kaukauna. Julia was employed at Thilmany Paper Company of Kaukauna where she met her husband, Martin Behnke . On May 21, 1949, Martin married Julia at the former Immanuel Ev. Reformed Church in Kaukauna. Martin preceded her in death on August 11, 2011. After raising her family, she was employed at Mirro Aluminum Co until she retired at the age of 62. She was a former member of St. John St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Reedsville, and is currently a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was affiliated with Immanuel Ladies Aid during her retirement years.
Julia, a dedicated wife and mother to her children, enjoyed gardening, crafts and traveling with her family and friends. She always was there to "pitch in" and assist family and friends with any project that they needed help with. She simply saw it as another way to spend time with those she cared about.
Survivors include seven children: Leon (Donna) Behnke, Abrams; Suzanne (Donald) Knuth, Fond du Lac; Charles (Kathleen) Behnke, Manitowoc; Douglas (Sue) Behnke, Manitowoc; Jerry (Joan) Behnke, Manitowoc; Patricia (Patrick) McDivitt, Moline, IL; Randall (Terri) Behnke, Manitowoc; one daughter-in-law: Gail Behnke, Sheboygan; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one sister: Shirley Zimmermann, Bellevue, NE; four sisters-in-law: Rosemary Schmitz, Kaukauna; Kristy Schmitz, O'Fallon, IL; Sophia Jandrey, Manitowoc; Loretta Behnke, Brillion; one brother-in-law: Orville Stecker, Stockbridge; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Julie was preceded in death by her husband, one son: DeWayne Behnke; one grandson: Trevor Behnke; daughter-in-law: Patricia Behnke; seven brothers and three sisters.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The visitation will continue at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am. The Rev. Paul Schossow and Rev. Nicholas Maglietto will officiate with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum. Online condolences may be sent to www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com
The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, N. 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
