George attended Lincoln High School graduating with the class of 1953. He earned his bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh and his master's degree in Supervisory Education from the University of Colorado, Greeley. George was a supervisor for the State of Wisconsin Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, retiring in 1994. In his early career he was both a teacher and principal with the Chilton school system. In addition to his full-time career, he was also a long-time relief milk hauler for Richard Sixel and Jerry Herrmann. George and Corrine designed and built their retirement, dream home on Rockville Rd with a barn and woods for horseback riding, many easter egg hunts for the grandkids and wonderful walks. George was a 'horse guy' and caring for his horses over the years was a huge part of his life. He enjoyed pulling his family, grandchildren and friends on horse-drawn wagon rides down Rockville Road. He had a passion for history and enjoyed volunteering at Pinecrest Historical Village. George was active in the communities in which he resided. He was a past member of the Cleveland Lions Club, a religious education instructor at St. Wendel's Catholic Parish in Cleveland, a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Kiel, a past supervisor for the Town of Schleswig, and an Interim Principal for Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Kiel.
George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Corrine (Kafka) Herrmann; five children, Peter (Maureen) Herrmann, Port Washington, Heidi (Kurt) Ploetz, Elkhart Lake, Beth (Richard) Snyder, Manitowoc, Paul (Nicole) Herrmann, Kiel, and Jon (Julie) Herrmann, Cleveland; sixteen grandchildren, Brooke (Peter) O'Byrne, Kelly (Bobby) Stewart, Jordan (John) Krasich, Jeremy Truvillion, Hannah Ploetz, Holly (David) Bohl, Tony (Heidi) Naber, Yolanda Naber, Candace Snyder and partner Joey Gonzalez, Sydney (Brittany) Snyder, Emma (Travis) Pearson, George (Lexi) Herrmann, Hayden Herrmann, Hattie Herrmann, Abby Herrmann, and Cole Herrmann; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, MaryJo (Jack) Kocurek; one brother Richard (Cindy) Herrmann and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eldred and Lucille (Pankratz) Herrmann, father and mother-in-law, Leslie and Frances (Wanek) Kafka, sister and brother-in-law, Bjorn and Les Ann (Kafka) Halvorsen, nephew, Christopher Herrmann and great-nephew Coltin Halvorsen. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2022 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Kiel, officiated by Fr. Alvan Amadi. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Friday, October 21 from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Luncheon at Millhome Supper Club will immediately follow service. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Manitowoc at 3 p.m. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Pine Haven Christian Communities in Sheboygan Falls for the kindness and compassion they provided George.
