Byron King was born August 22, 1931 to Nellie Elizabeth Neismith King and John E King. He was a 1950 graduate of Fair Park High School. During his high school years he participated in ROTC and the school rifle team. While on the rifle team he earned the rating of "Expert" which is the highest rating available to a competitive shooter.
After graduation he joined the US Army where he served 3 years which included one tour in Korea. Dad was a tried-and-true patriot and served and loved his country and the red, white, and blue.
Byron is preceded in death by his mother and father, Elizabeth and John King, his loving wife Bonnie Marie King. Also preceding him in death is his brother Arnold King, three brother-in-law's, Charles Carpenter, Ted Gates, and Joe Wade.
Byron is survived by his loving and devoted children, Wendy Clark and Kenny King. He is papaw to Blaine and Angela Wilkins, Shane Wilkins, Emilee King, and Chandler King. The great-papaw to Emersyn Picou and Papoo to Turner Wilkins. He is also survived by his sisters, Fay Gates, Melba Wade, Laura Carpenter, and extended family member Wilson Canizares. The list of surviving nieces and nephews is too many to mention but he loved each and every one of them from the bottom of his heart.
After retirement from SWEPCO Byron became an avid golfer and fisherman. He will admit he was a better fisherman than golfer boasting that regardless of where he wet a hook or who was fortunate enough to fish with him he would always catch the 1st one, the last one, the smallest one, the largest one, and the most. And believe it or not, he never failed to do just that. He loved LSU football and any NFL team that played the Dallas Cowboys.
A Visitation for Byron will be held Friday, October 21, 2022 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 12:00 PM with Bro. Donnie Vercher officiating. Burial will take place at Centuries Memorial Park (Veterans II; Lot: 62, Grave: 6) with Military Honors following the service. Serving as pallbearers will be Blaine Wilkins, Chandler King, Shane Wilkins, Stan Wade, Andy Bogdan, Stephen Schurman, and Turner Wilkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Thompson (dad's Monday domino partner), Richard Murphy, and the Ford Park domino group.
