Mildred "Milllie" O'Connell passed away peacefully on October 13, 2022.

Millie was born on March 9, 1936 to Joseph and Mildred O'Brien and grew up in Evergreen Park with her parents and four siblings. She married her childhood sweetheart, the boy across the street, Bill O'Connell. Her mother warned her to stay away from those O'Connell boys, they were nothing but trouble, but Millie didn't heed her mother's warnings and fell in love with Bill and married him in 1956. She and Bill moved to Oak Lawn where they raised their six children. In her "free" time, Millie baked bread, sewed dresses for her three daughters, knitted booties for anyone who had a baby, crocheted beautiful blankets, volunteered at Kolmar School, played bridge with the ladies and danced in the revues at St. Catherine's. She was involved in local politics and served as Village Trustee for the Village of Oak Lawn. Millie was Bill's right hand in his real estate office, O'Connell Realty, and later when he moved to ReMax. But nothing in life brought her more joy than her children, her nine grandchildren, who called her Grandma Sweetheart, and her five great-grandchildren, who called her Gigi.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Maryanne O'Brien, her brothers Joe O'Brien and Frank O'Brien and her sweetheart Bill. She is survived by her brother, Jim (Kathy) O'Brien; her children, Mary Alice (Tony) Ziola, Beth (Tom) Menke, Kevin O'Connell, Peggy (Matt) Bailey, Brian O'Connell and Shawn O'Connell; her grandchildren Zach (Angie), Allison (Chris), Liz, Amanda (Jeff), Eric, Ryan, Luke, Paige and Katie; and her great-grandchildren Jack, Audrey, Aiden, Izzie Mae and Wyatt; and her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Family and friends to gather on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Our Lady of the Woods Church, 10731 W. 131st Street, Orland Park, IL for a Memorial Visitation 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass, 10:00 a.m.
