Leanna Johnson of Elkhorn, Wisconsin passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at the age of 73.

Born in Chicago, Illinois on November 10, 1942, she was the eldest of two children and only daughter born to Susanna (Hyde) and Leo Nichols.

She never graduated from high school but she was a hard worker and was loyal to her employer. She relocated from Illinois to Wisconsin when the Schaumburg-based company, ECM Motor Co., relocated in 1984 to Elkhorn, a small town of only 7,000 people at that time. "Lee", as most people referred to her, worked her way around the company over the years and held positions of Production Supervisor, Training Coordinator, and during the later part of her career, Lee worked in Human Resources as Health and Safety Coordinator, affectionately known as "Sergeant Safety". She retired from ECM after 27 years of employment, taking with her countless fond memories after establishing many lifelong relationships.

Lee married Raymond Preucil in 1960 and together they had three children, Debbie, Darren, and Donna. They divorced and she married Charles (Chuck) Johnson, whom she met at ECM, in 1970, and they had two additional children, Kimberly and Kevin. They lived in Streamwood, Illinois until they relocated to Elkhorn.

Lee enjoyed giving and doing things for others. She enjoyed making hundreds of cookies every year at Christmastime and making special deliveries to her numerous recipients … she was always like that, bringing donuts to the doctor's office, baked goodies and meal supplements to the elderly in the assisted living home, buying clothing and necessities for her grandkids every time there was a sale. She loved shopping, especially where a bargain was involved.

There are so many things that we will remember about Leanna as a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a friend … her care packages whether you needed them or not, sitting out on the deck or at the kitchen table having a cup of coffee together, the way she loved to do her nails; she was always doing, redoing, and touching up her nails, the smell of her favorite perfume (Tabu), and how she would pay to have her back rubbed and her hair brushed by whichever child was up for it (the going rate was usually a quarter "I'll give you a quarter if …" but there were a few occasions when big money (a dollar or even five dollars) was involved. Lee was also strong-willed and protective of herself and her family and when brought to the point of taking action she would often say, "well, I'm Mrs. Johnson!" because to her, that was a weighted statement; it meant something to her and that would make the difference.

Leanna was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Keith, who all died in a house-fire on October 12, 1965, when she was just 22 years old. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Chuck and their beloved children, Debbie, Darren (Greg), Donna, Kimberly (Brian) and Kevin. She is further survived by and was the proud grandma of Benjamin, Chase, Jacob, Molly, Brynn, Jonah, and Rees.

All who knew her loved her and will miss her each and every day. Sadness is now a part of us because we had to let her go, but joy continues because her life has been woven into ours, never to be removed, always a part of us, and our privilege to share with others.

"What we once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes part of us."
