Kolarik, Joseph A.

Joseph A. Kolarik, age 79, of 2411 34th St., Two Rivers, died Wednesday night, September 10, 2014, at the Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers, following an over 10 year battle with cancer, with family and friends at his side.

Joe was born on April 24, 1935, at his home in Tisch Mills, to the late Joseph and Anna Novotny Kolarik. He attended a one room grade school in Mishicot and graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1952. Joe served with the 97th Signal Corps of the U. S. Army, stationed in Germany, from 1956 until his honorable discharge in April, 1958. Joe spent his leave time traveling throughout Spain, Germany, Austria and Italy. On September 30, 1961, he married Arlene M. Bauer at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Norman. The Rev. Hubert Nilles presided at the ceremony.

Joe was employed at Mirro Aluminum Co. for 35 years and then worked for Federal Mogul in Manitowoc for 10 years until his retirement. After retiring, Joe worked summers with the Two Rivers Parks & Cemeteries Dept., cutting grass and during the winter months worked at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store. He was an active member of Holy Redeemer and St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, serving as an usher for over 45 years and also bringing communion to the homebound. Joe was a member of the Men of St. Peter the Fisherman, Two Rivers Senior Center and St. Vincent De Paul, where he was also a volunteer. He loved playing cards, golfing, watching Packers and Badger games, gardening, his flower gardens, watching birds and wildlife around his yard, and Riding horses and walking with his daughter, Michele.

Survivors include his wife: Arlene; one son: Mike Kolarik of Madison; a son-in-law: Peter Shambeau of Two Rivers; and one brother & two sisters-in-law, Fred (Shirley) Kolarik of Arizona; and Beatrice Kolarik of Two Rivers. He is further survived by two brothers-in-law: Ray (Ann) Bauer of Kewaunee and Peter Schoepp, Sr. of Two Rivers; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter: Michele Shambeau in 2013, two brothers and three sisters-in-law: Robert Kolarik, James (Joyce) Kolarik, Carol Kolarik and Phyllis Schoepp.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd., Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Tom Reynebeau with entombment in Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Hwy 310, Manitowoc. Military honors will be accorded immediately following the mass by members of the American Legion Post #165 and V.F.W. Post #1248 of Two Rivers.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, 1506 18th St., Two Rivers, on Friday evening (TONIGHT), from 5 until 7 p.m., and at the church Saturday morning from 8:45 until 9:45 a.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church or St. Vincent de Paul Society of Two Rivers.

The Kolarik family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Barylak & Dr. Yetter and the entire staff of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center for the compassionate care and kindness Joe received. Special thanks also to the caregivers of Aurora VNA for their special care and support.
