Ruth W. Allen, 88 years old, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2008 at the Heartland Hospital, St. Joseph, MO.
Ruth Wick was born on December 16, 1919 in Scribner, NE, the daughter of Fred and Martha (Daum) Wick.
She received her bachelor degree in education from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, NE and was a few hours short of her masters degree. Mrs. Allen was a Primary and Special Education Teacher for over 36 years, having taught school in Kansas, Oregon and California. She retired in 1983 in California and moved back to St. Joseph, MO, in 1989. She was formerly an active member of the Cross and Crown Lutheran Church, Rohnert Park, CA, was a life member of the California Retired Teachers Association, a Charter member of the Hummel Club, and enjoyed collecting Hummel's. She was a painter and enjoyed making Christmans and beads to help decorate her church. Mrs. Allen was a former Cub Scout leader, Boy Scout leader, 4-H Leader, Camp Fire Girls Leader, and was active in her church activities.
She was married to William F. Allen on June 10, 1945 in Lincoln, NE. They moved to Atchison shortly after their marriage. Mr. Allen survives of the home in St. Joseph, MO, additional survivors include two sons; William P. (Linda) Allen, Bothell, WA, and Daniel M. (June) Allen, Lincoln, CA, a daughter; Pamela J. (Richard) Brown, St. Joseph, MO, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Her parents; Fred and Martha (Daum) Wick and three brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Rev. Valerian Ahles, Pastor of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
