In 1944, during WW II, Mary Ann joined the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps and received her training at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia. Upon graduation, she served at McGuire VA Hospital, Richmond, Virginia, prior to many years as a civilian nurse at the USAF Hospital, Wiesbaden, Germany. On returning to the US, she was GYN Head Nurse at Holmes Regional Hospital, Melbourne, Florida. She later became Assistant Director of Nurses at Hendry General Hospital, Clewiston, Florida. In 1975, she graduated from Memorial Mission Hospital School of Anesthesia and became a member of the Anesthesia Professional Association at Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood, SC, where she became Chief Nurse Anesthetist. She later accepted a position in the Anesthesia Department at Transylvania Community (now Regional) Hospital, Brevard. Mary Ann retired in 1996 after a long career of service to Anesthetists and was a charter member of the Nurses Association of American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Mary Ann spent many happy years researching her genealogical roots with her beloved sister Helen Peeler, enjoyed meeting new cousins, and loved attending the annual Daniels Reunion in West Virginia and Maryland for many years. She was a proud member of numerous genealogical associations and made many research trips with her dear cousin, Karen Cresap.
She is survived by her beloved son, Daniel Eugene Galyon (Suzi), grandsons, Robert Knox Galyon (Linda) and Michael Thomas Galyon (Heather), great grandchildren, Nathan, Nicklas, Samantha, and Jacob Galyon, and sister Thelma Elizabeth Siniard. Other beloved family members: Kathy Davis, Heidi Owen and son Daniel (Tiffany and son Sawyer), Bryan Owen (Jennifer), Clay Davis (Becky and daughter Cora), Casey Davis (James, sons Jaxson and Colt), Patricia Knox Galyon, Jessie Galyon. She leaves behind dear friends known and loved during her long life and looked forward to joining other friends and family members who have preceded her.
