RICHARD MONTGOMERY BANNING of Woodbridge, VA, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away on September 16, 2022 at the age of 61.

Born on March 30, 1961 in Washington, DC, he is preceded in death by his father, Bruce C. Banning, Sr. and mother, Jeanette Montgomery Banning.

He is survived by his loving wife Steele Ott Banning, 2 children - Danielle Lynn Banning and Summer Nicole Banning and 2 granddaughters, Cora Rose Swankoski and Lily Victoria Swankoski. He is also survived by his brothers Bruce C. Banning, Jr. (Debbie) and George W. Banning (Robyn), sisters Lynnette Banning and Dawnn Banning Johnson, aunt Jeri May and many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and co-workers.

Rich, as he was known by his friends, lived in Potomac Maryland and El Paso Texas in his early life and later moved to Northern Virginia where he built a successful roofing company, R. M. Banning Roofing, established in 1982 that he operated for over 40 years. His company was recently named a 2021 Angie's Super Service Award winner for the seventh time - a prize only given to five percent of businesses rated on AngiesList.com.

Rich loved adventure and was an avid water and snow skier and talented pool player, Frisbee golf and champion dart thrower and loved hosting 'corn-hole' parties to bring friends together for a good time. He had a huge heart always, without hesitation, helping many a friend and family member in need.

Rich had a sentimental soul and a true appreciation for the aesthetic beauty in nature. One of his favorite places to be was on his boat watching the sunset on the Potomac River and spending time with the community of friends he met there.

Gone from us way too soon, he leaves a deep void in all our lives -- Until we meet again, we feel your indomitable spirit all around us and are profoundly grateful you were in our lives.

A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15th, at Mountcastle Turch Life Celebration Home, 4143 Dale Blvd, Dale City, VA. The family welcomes friends to gather afterward at the Electric Palm Restaurant at Prince William Marina, 12745 Sea Ray Lane, Woodbridge, VA to give the many whose lives Rich touched an opportunity to share their personal stories and mutual love of this amazing man. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the National Motorcycle Safety Fund https://nmsfund.org/.
