She was a lifetime member of the William Jewell College – Women's Committee; a 12-year member of the Liberty Investment Club, serving as Treasurer for 10 years; and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Braymer, Missouri.
She was a former electric company billing clerk, telephone operator, day care provider and worked 20 years in the Liberty public school as a cafeteria manager. She later retired from there and continued to work another 18 years as part time.
Betty had certain goals. Her top priority was to live to be 100 years, that her maternal grandmother was only a few months short of. With her heritage of Norwegian, German, and Irish, she had great determination. Her next goal was to go to her all-school class reunion in Spirit Lake, Iowa every year. She enjoyed traveling. She was a regular at the Mandeville Methodist Church. She enjoyed the K.C. Barbecue Society, attending monthly lunches and contest Friday night parties on the barbecue trail throughout the Midwest. Everyone knew her as "Mom" because she was always so personable and pleasant.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Raymond; two brothers: Marlin and Dean Adams; and her son in law: Jay Patterson Barnes.
