Mrs. Reba Mae Bennett Cheek, age 87, passed away Monday, June 6, 2016 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Cheek was born September 25, 1928 in Alleghany County to Clayton and Mittie Shaw Bennett. Mrs. Cheek was a lifelong member of East Elkin Full Gospel Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Max Cheek; daughter, Judy Smith; three sisters and one brother.
Survivors include: her sons, Jackson Griffith and wife Kathy of Wilkesboro, Ronnie Helton and wife Tammy of Wilkesboro and Randy Helton of the home; daughter, Linda Casstevens and H. Gene of Jonesville; step-sons, Harlan Cheek and wife Betty of State Road and Reggie Cheek and wife Peggy of Jonesville; brothers, J.C. Bennett of Sparta and Charlie Bennett and wife Frances of Glade Valley; sisters, Emogene Mann and husband Fred of Taylors, South Carolina and Linda "Penny" Bennett of Taylors, South Carolina; fifteen grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at East Elkin Full Gospel with Rev. Jerry Childress and Rev. Charlie Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
The family would like to thank Wilkes Transit Authorities, Elkin Dialysis Center and Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital for their care.
