William Johnson Byram Sr was born on May 8/9, 1893 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, the son of William A Whitworth Byram (1856–1939) and Ella Frances (Beal) Byram (1861–1925).

He was married in 1913 to Grace Roger Bailey (1895–1997), the daughter of Edward George Bailey (1857–1902) and Martha Ellen "Mattie" (Dennis) Bailey (1867–1940).

William was a member of the choir and the official board of Love's Chapel Methodist Church, a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics, the
Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Guilding Star Lodge No. 271 F&AM and the Traveler's Protective Association. He was also a former president of the Twentieth Ward Democratic Club and a member of the PTA of Glenn and Caldwell Schools. He was a councilman from 1939 to 1947 and was chairman of the finance committee. He was also campaign manager for former Davidson County Sheriff Ivie Young.

A salesman for Gilbert's Clothing Store on the square before retiring in 1958, William was living in Goodlettsville , William 72 years old and married when he had a heart attack and died in Madison Sanitarium & Hospital on June 19, 1964.

Survivors included his widow Grace, daughters Mrs William Sherlock Jr in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, Mrs Robert Marlow of Clarksville, Tennessee, Mrs Henry M Moore at Madison, Tennessee and Mrs Floyd Lee in Nashville, son W J Byram Jr of Nashville, sister Mrs Sarah Frances Byram (Whitley) (Lang) Horn (8 May 1905–28 Nov 1988) at Nashville, brothers Lloyd Byram in Madison, Robert Byram of Donelson, Tennessee and Gordon Byram at Nashville, eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held on June 22nd at Love's Chapel Methodist Church, and burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.
