Elizabeth "Lib" I. Barkdoll, 95, of Wolfsville, Maryland, departed this life on October 26, 2022, at Fahrney Keedy Memory Care Unit, Boonsboro. Born August 3, 1927, at her grandparent's home, on Forrest School Road, Wolfsville, Maryland, she was the eldest of nine children born to Ethel Winfield Frushour and Edgar Martin Frushour. Her beloved husband of 68 years, Walter "Pete" E. Barkdoll whom she missed immensely predeceased her, August 5, 2019. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Keller and Joyce Coblentz and husband Allen, four grandchildren – Alex Coblentz and Jordan, Katherine Parsley and Derek, Bradley and Holden Coblentz, two great grandchildren, Aaden and Nicholas Coblentz. In addition, she is survived by two sisters – Doris Smith and Laverne Bosley, four brothers – Kenneth (Ann), Delphin (Betty), Alton and Gerald Frushour, three sister-in-laws - Janet Norris, Kathryn Nave, Maxine Smith, and many nieces and nephews. Lib was predeceased by her parents, and two brothers – Lawrence and Dale Frushour and son-in-law – Lawrence Keller, Jr.
Lib grew up in Wolfsville being spoiled by both grandfathers. Her younger years were spent helping her mother with her siblings due to her mother's health, picking beans and tomatoes for local farmers. At age eleven, completing 6th grade, she became a "Domestic" for numerous families, the Sensenbaughs, Eylers, Harnes, Zellers and Hamonds in the local area, Thurmont, and Hagerstown. Perfection was required by her employers; thus, the foundation was set for her entire life. She took great pride in taking care of her family, her home kept spotless, and yard and gardens meticulous. Southern Packing Co, Cavetown, was also her employer for a short time. While working at the Hammonds she met Pete her future husband, they dated many years and married September 1, 1950. After marrying, Lib worked for J.J. Newberry's managing the jewelry counter prior to the birth of Linda. Six years later Joyce was born. Her family and home became the center of her life until her death. Being a lifelong member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wolfsville, she served as Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, and helped at all functions. She was faithful to her church and considered its members as her extended family.
After her girls were grown, Lib enjoyed traveling all over the United States and Canada with Pete and many members of the Wolfsville and Middletown Valley on bus trips visiting almost all fifty states and provinces. A cruise to Nassau, Bahamas was an especially luxurious experience for her.
At 92, poor circulation and a life of hard work contributed to Lib needing both of her legs amputated below the knee. Her resilient attitude and the diligence of her therapy team resulted in her being able to walk with prosthetics and a walker. She persevered for three more years, with health ups and downs, but as she would say: like old cars, her parts were wearing out. Lib's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregiver, Sherry and all those who sent cards, gifts, and visited during her last few years.
