Arthur was the son of Jasper Way/Ferdinand and Anna French Ferdinand.
(Jasper had changed the family name from Way to Ferdinand in 1845.)

Arthur's siblings were Mary Anna Ferdinand, born 15 May 1847; died 19 May 1847 at Jamaica Plain, Mass.
Lorrin Way Ferdinand, born 27 December 1853, Melrose, Mass.
Ida Louise Ferdinand, born 14 July 1856, Melrose, Mass.
Henrietta Ferdinand, born 18 Feb 1861, Lexington, Mass; died 3 April 1865, Melrose, Mass

Arthur married Hattie May Joslin 15 June 1898. Hattie was born 5 April 1868 at Northfield, Vermont, daughter of Francis and Selina Lepre Gosselin.

Arthur and Hattie lived in Cambridge, Mass., where two sons, Ralph Edmund (1900) and Ernest Arthur (1902) were born.

In 1907 Hattie and Arthur were divorced. Hattie and the two boys went to live with her brother, Edmund Joslin, in Winthrop, Mass., where she resided until her death in 1925.

In 1908, Arthur became a lawyer. He married second Adelaide Jewell, a milliner, 1 Jan 1918. They lived in a small cottage on the banks of the PowWow River in South Hampton, New Hampshire. He died there 26 Nov 1942.

Arthur did some family research and in later years, enjoyed winters in Florida.

Arthur is buried in the Forest Hills Cemetery, in the Wells family plot.
