Bus, Automobile Crash Kills Man

MERCED, June 17 – One person was killed and four received injuries in a headon collision early yesterday morning three miles north of Merced on the Golden State Hightway between a passenger car operated by Earl V. Anderson, 22, of Merced and a Pacific Greyhound bus driven by Wayne T. Spears, 40, of Modesto. Anderson died in the general hospital about eight hours after the crash.

Injured in the crash were Spears, Thomas J. Daniels, 45, of Los Angeles; Lawrence H. Moore, 32, Burley, Wash.; and Anna Swick, 49, of Vancouver, B.C. They were all taken to the general hospital. All persons receiving injuries were passengers in the bus.

Swing To Wrong Side
Highway Patrolmen Maxwell Neil and Curtis Farr, investigating the crash, reported the Anderson machine, going in a southerly direction, swung onto the wrong side of the road directly into the path of the north bound bus. Anderson, a veteran of World War II with nearly two years' overseas service, was a native of Colorado and had lived in this community for the past 12 years. He had been engaged in the trucking business with his father, J.B. Anderson.

Surviving are the veteran's father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Anderson of Merced; sister, Gertrude Price of Fresno, Mrs. Juanita Canova of Oakland, Mrs. Helen Murtan of Fresno, Mrs. Jewel Blair of Merced, Joe Ella Anderson and Bobby Jean Anderson of Merced; brothers, Ray V. Anderson of Santa Clara and Jay Anderson of Merced.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 P.M. in the Ivers & Alcorn Mission Chapel.
