Paula's obituary read:
"Paula Inez Grubstick Schwartz Died August 31, 2007, peacefully at home in Rancho Mirage, CA. Born Paula Silverstein on September 29, 1917 in Kansas City, MO. Paula moved to San Francisco in her early twenties. She worked as a secretary to a film distributor on Film Row. There she met, fell in love with, and married AI Grubstick. After years residing in San Francisco, AI and Paula relocated to Palo Alto where they lived until AI died in the early 1980s. In Palo Alto Paula worked in an insurance office. Several years after AI's death she met Lee E. Schwartz and they married and lived happily ever after until Lee's death in 1999. Lee and Paula moved to Palm Desert in 1992 and there Paula developed a large circle of loving friends. Paula was always interested in popular music. She played the piano by ear and made all of the family gatherings lively, with family members singing and dancing to her music. She wrote the book, music and lyrics for a musical comedy and had a song, "Lay Heady Down" published. She was active in the Variety Club. Paula also loved to dance and was the consummate dance partner. She also did fundraising for Hadassah, Blind Babies Foundation and the Alzheimer's Association. She was also a volunteer income tax preparer with AARP. Paula had a lively sense of humor and appreciated a good story. She was a warm and loving person. We miss her. Paula is survived by her cousins: Elinore Gallas Bloomfield, (Bennett) of San Mateo, Phoebe Gallas Rosenthal (David) of Los Angeles, Susan Covington Arkoff, (Abe) of Honolulu, HI, Laurie Simon Goldstein, (Jerod) of Soquel, Wendy Simon of Oakland, Rabbi Jim Simon, (Rebecca) of Miami, FL, Nancy Joffee Levin, (Michael) of Encino, Jim Joffee of Santa Margarita; and her stepchildren Alan (Mary), Dan (Barbara) and Judy (Carolyn) Schwartz; and grandchildren, Sarah Schwartz and Hannah and Emma Pines-Schwartz. Donations can be made to Blind Babies Foundation, 1814 Franklin St, 11th Flr, Oakland, CA 94612, or Alzheimers Assoc. of the Coachella Valley, 69730 Highway 111, Ste 202, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270."--San Francisco Chronicle, October 4, 2007
