Louis A. H. Salzwedel, age 80, of Ettrick, died on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at the UW Hospital in Madison, WI as a result of injuries he received in a tragic fire.

Louis was born on November 22, 1939 in LaCrosse, WI to Louis H. and Alice (Thompson) Salzwedel. He married Judith Lindow in Black River Falls, WI on June 17, 1961.

Louis worked for the Twesme Feed Mill, hauled milk for the Arcadia Creamery and farmed his homestead. He was a lifelong member of South Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, and held leadership positions on the Church Council and the Men's Club. Louis also served on the LaCrosse Area Synod Council (ELCA) with Bishop April Larson.

Louis looked forward to deer hunting season and trout planting day as a member of the Ettrick Rod and Gun Club. He served as the clerk for Midwest Livestock in Ettrick and then at Equity Market in Sparta. For many years, his Saturday mornings were spent monitoring the Ettrick township's recycling center until COVID-19 precautions went into effect. He loved music, especially Old Time music, rolled a mean bowling ball and always carried cards in his pocket looking for anyone to play a game of euchre.

His parents, infant twin siblings, Louis and Lois, sisters, Ruth Everson and Lois McDougall, and a nephew, Donald McDougall preceded him in death.

Louis is survived by his wife, Judy; a daughter, Lynnae (Steven) Schatz; two sons, Jeffrey and Loren (Keri Jo) along with four grandchildren, Hannah (Joshua) Macon, Kyle Salzwedel, Nathaniel Schatz and Nicholas Salzwedel; a sister, Anna Marie Brudos; brothers-in-law, Russell McDougall, Richard (Ardel) Lindow and Creswell (Ann) Lindow, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Shirley Johnson and Carol (Gary) Gunderson and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Louis, a.k.a. Louie, Lou or Sonny was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to everyone.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2020 with Rev. John Ashland officiating. Family and friends are invited to drive through the South Beaver Creek Lutheran Cemetery (W16679 County Road D) in rural Ettrick to honor Louis on Saturday, April 25, 2020 from 2-3 p.m.

Honorary casket bearers will be Daniel Brudos, Dan Erickson, Truman Everson, Abbie Gunderson, Rodney McDougall, Ed and Becky Puent, Paul Ronning, Bob Schulz and Andy Tranberg.

A Memorial Service celebrating Louis's life will be held at a later date.
