She was born October 5, 1918 and was the second of thirteen children born to Merle and Harry Smith. She grew up in Larimore, ND and attended Mayville State Teachers College. She always wanted to be a teacher and spent 33 years living and working in the Larimore/Grand Forks area.
She was married and widowed three times. After her husband passed away, she moved to Fargo, ND to live with her sister Bun Solum where she continued to work part time. She held positions at Family Credit Life, American Cancer Society and CashWise Foods. She moved to St. Paul, MN in 2015 to be near her daughter.
Marian loved books and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed cooking and entertained many family and friends over the years. She loved traveling and spent several winters in Arizona. She was a woman of faith and was very active in her church. She was a loving and supportive mom and sister and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Lee (Jim) Borucki; step-daughters, Helen Palm and Shirley Palm; sisters, Marjorie Davidson, Janice Jones, Mavis (Mike) Wold, and Maxine Barry; brother, Clayton (Judy); grand-daughter-in-law, Michele Kniss; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers, Lyndell and Wayne; sisters, Lois, Mildred, JoAnne, Eleray, LuVern (aka Bun) and her grandson Chad Kniss.
Funeral service Tuesday Jan. 30th at 11AM (visitation 1 hour prior) at HOLCOMB-HENRY-BOOM-PURCELL FUNERAL HOME, 515 Hwy 96 W., Shoreview. Interment in the spring.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
