Rev. William Cline Hightower, of Springdale(Washington County), Arkansas, passed away on February 8, 2008, in Springdae. He was know to most as "Brother Bill.
William was the son of the late Bryan and Rahel(Cline Hightower and was born in Hartman(Johnson County), Arkansas
William Hightower received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Arkansas Tech Univesity at Russellville, Arkansas and received his theological sudies t PerkinsSchool of Theology-Southern Metodist Universit. He was a fraternal member of the Pi Gamma Mu.
Rev. Hightower was a retired Methdi minister of theNoth Arkansas Conference of the Unite Methodist Church, hvng retired in 1990, after 44 years of ministry service. During his ministr, he servd in pastorates in Pottsville, Hoxie, Ozark, Paris, Booneville, Pargould, atesville, Piggott, onesboro, and as an associate pastor at the First United Methodist Church in Springdale, Arkansas. During his ministry, heserved on many North Arkansas Conference Boards and also spent many years directing the youth camps and assemblies, as well as, teaching in several schoolsof Christian belif.
Prior to beingcalled into the ministry, Rv. Hightower taught history and English in public schools and was voted the most popular teacher any times.
He was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Springdale, Arkansas.
William was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Louise Hightower; whom he married on April 26, 1946; one brother: Hoyle R. Hightower, and one sister: Francis Harris.
He is survived by one daughter: Mary Griffey of Fayetteville; three sons: Bryan of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Rich of Rogers, Arkansas, and Steve of Springfield, Missouri; one brother: Bedell Hightower of Fort Smith, Arkansas; 10 gradcildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at 2:00pm at the 1st United Methodist Church in Springdale, Arkansas. Bishop Max Whitfield and Rev. Mackey Yokem, Rev. Britt Skarda,Rev. Judy Van Hoose and Rev. Craig Russell, officiated the services.
Pallbearers were: Rich Hightower, Zach Hightower, Ben Highower, Hoyle W. Hightwoer, Jim Cypert, Larry Douglas, Bob Chambers, and Charles Harber.
Honorary pallbearers were: James Beaty and Don Rutledge.
