OTEGO: Donald T. Avery, 83, of Otego passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022 at his home with family by his side.
He was born on October 3, 1939 in Endicott the son of the late Harold and Lana Marie (Cooke) Avery.

Donald proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958. He was self employed as a Certified Master Farrier.

Donald was involved in many organizations; the Brotherhood of American Farriers Association, AQHA, American Legion 1555 as commander for 4 years, past member of PRCA, past member of USTA, NYS Racing and Wagering, Pennsylvania Racing Association, Florida Quarter Horse Association, and Golden Gloves Boxing Coach, little league coach. Donald was also an avid hunter for many years. Because he had so many interests, he always had something to talk about with his many friends. Donald was appreciated for his sense of humor and quick wit as well as for his kindness and willingness to share his vast knowledge of horses.

He is survived by his wife Sarah, children Christopher (Janet) Avery and Lisa (Neil) Burdick; sister Jacqueline (Ronald) Simmons; grandchildren Dr. Erin Avery, Tienna Avery, Kyle Avery, Michael (Kelly) Delrosario, and Daniel Nelson; and great grandchild Maria Delrosario, as well as many cousins.

Donald was predeceased by his brothers John Lindon Avery, Richard and David, and his sister Dorothy Robinson.

A celebration of Donald's life will be held at the Oneonta American Legion, 279 Chestnut Street, Oneonta on December 10 at 3pm.
