She married James L. Griffith on Nov 26, 1947 in Bloomington after graduating from Bloomington High School earlier that year. She attended University of Indiana School of Music as a voice major before beginning to raise a family. During her lifetime, Beverly held administrative support positions in both elementary and high schools in Illinois, Kentucky and Iowa, and in churches in Lincoln, NE and Omaha. A lifelong member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Bev was a soloist in many different churches. She also served as choir director, Sunday School teacher, Youth Leader, and Coordinator of Condolence Teams. She and her husband, Jim, started the Stephen Ministry at First Christian Church, Omaha, where they both served as Stephen Leaders and Ministers. Bev was a tireless worker, participating as a member of the Chancel and Memorial Bell Choirs, as Elder, and as Coordinator of Lay Ministries for her congregation. Bev founded and directed Sweet Adeline (barbershop-style women’s music) chapters and choruses in Watertown, SD and Owensboro, KY. She was also hired to direct the Sweet Adeline chorus of Alexandria, VA, and she assisted in directing the Des Moines, IA chorus. She coached quartets, helped plan shows and prepped chorus and quartet members for performances and competition. Bev was also a member of several registered Sweet Adeline quartets. She and Jim were active members of the barbershop music community in 7 different states over a 50-year period. Bev’s main loves in life were caring for her husband of 65-plus years, her family and service to others. Singing was one of her greatest joys and she loved to cook. After a 3-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, Beverly passed peacefully from this life on June 15, 2013 at Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha. She was preceded in death by her parents and her eldest sister, June Kiehl of Arlington Heights, IL. Two days after her own passing, on June 17, 2013 she was joined in death by her husband, Jim. She is survived by daughters: Sylvia Griffith of Lincoln, NE, Marilyn Griffith of LaVista, NE, and Judith Dus (Ray) of Eagan, MN; sister, Ellen Stout of Bloomington, IN; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
