Paul Ackerman, 86 of Nevada, died Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada.

Paul was born in Nevada on January 19, 1936, to Ben and Eva (Earl) Ackerman. He graduated from Shipley High School in 1954 and enlisted in the Marines until 1956, based at Camp Pendleton. He was always so proud to be a Marine.

He married Georgia Lee Sweeney on January 22, 1957, in Cambridge. Following moves to Fort Dodge, Forest City, and Humboldt, they made their home back in Nevada.

While in the Fort Dodge and Forest City areas Paul sold Harvestore silos. In Humboldt he owned and operated a Minneapolis Moline dealership. When they returned to Nevada he worked for Ernie Otto on his farm and in his Minneapolis Moline implement business as his mechanic. In 1973 the family moved to town when Paul became the mechanic for the Story County Road Department.

Paul enjoyed his family and their many activities. His grandkids and greats were the apple of his eye! He served on the Story County Sheriff's Reserve, was a member of the American Legion and Memorial Lutheran Church. He loved the outdoors. Everyone knew about and always admired his large, beautiful gardens. After his retirement, mowing yards and just being on his John Deere mower were his favorite pass times. Paul was always repairing someone's car on the side.

He is survived by his daughter Kim Elliott, children Craig and Brittany Elliott, and Kelly and Kyle Thompson (Hollis); Mike and Patsy Ackerman, daughters Collette and Brian Andreasen (Lillian and William), Shelby and Matt Myers, (Jaxson and Braelynn), and Dana and Drew Brower; and daughter Peggy and Scott Hansen, daughters Britney and Cameron Beatty, and Brooke and Peyton Renning. Also surviving is his sister Mary Landis, and brother-in-law Don Williams, along with several nieces, nephews, dear friends, and special friend, Karen Chance.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia; his parents; sisters Marjorie (Art) Fox, Mary Katherine (John) Croker, Nora (Leo) Kinyon, and Helen Williams; brothers Raymond (Eileen) Ackerman and Carl (Delores) Ackerman; and brother-in-law Terry Landis.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2022, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Nevada.
