She was married on August 19, 1931 in Franklin, Simpson County, Kentucky to James Edgar Smith, who was born on August 10, 1912 in Smith County, Tennessee and died on July 4 1985. He was the son of Walter Herschel Smith (1885–1953) and Ada Bell (Warren) Smith (1889–1936). James had enlisted in the US Army in April 1944 and was discharged in April 1946, having served during World War II.
Living in Nashville, Dorothy a member of Woodmont Hills Church of Christ and of UDC. She was 87 years old when she passed away on November 6, 2002.
Preceded in death by her husband, she was survived by two married sons, three grandsons and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on November 8th at Woodlawn Funeral Home's Chapel of Roses, and burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Nashville.
