James J. Chizek, age 83, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life of Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc.

Jim was born on February 14, 1939 in the town of Kossuth, Manitowoc County. He was the son of the late Elmer and Arlene Martin Chizek. Jim attended Lincoln High School and graduated with the class of 1957. After high school he joined Company E 127th Infantry of the National Guard. He became employed as a machinist for the Manitowoc Company for three years and then in 1962 he became employed with the Manitowoc City Police Department for the following 32 years and retired as Lieutenant Shift Commander. On June 10, 1961 he married Judith A. Franz at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Jim was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, life member of the Amvets Post #99 having served as Post Commander and was active with the Honor Guard. He was also a life member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #706 of Manitowoc.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy, two sons daughters-in-law, William Chizek, Command Master Chief Musician Retired United States Navy and his wife Raquel Chizek, Yeoman Senior Chief Retired United States Navy, El Paso, Texas, and Michael Chizek, Navy Chief Musician Retired United States Navy and his wife Wendy Chizek, Two Rivers; three grandchildren, Michael, Amanda, and Melinda Chizek; two step grandchildren, Stephanie and Nicole; one sister-in-law, Kim Chizek, Germantown; niece, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Arlene Chizek and one brother Rick Chizek.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Grand, 1416 Grand Avenue, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Matt Colle. Relatives and friends may call at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Grand on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Following the memorial service military honors will be accorded at the church by the Amvets Post #99. A luncheon will take place after the military honors held at church at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 North Water Street, Manitowoc, located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. Burial of Jim's cremated remains will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc.
