Charles E. Hawkins, 93, died this morning September 8, 1962, in Dexheimer's Nursing Home, where he had been a patient for five weeks he had been in failing health for the past three months.
Mr. Hawkins was born in Ohio County, Indiana on November 27, 1868, a son of William and Elizabeth Bartlett Hawkins. He married Anna Lamb in 1890 and they divorced and they divorced, he then married Della Gilbert in 1895, she died in 1908; he then married Jamima Ellen Stinnet Jacobs, she preceded him in death in 1959. He was the last survivor of his family and came to this community in 1875, where he followed his occupation of a barber for more than 50 years.
Surviving are six daughters Mrs. Frances Stephens and Mrs. Inez Sessions, both of Taylorville; Mrs. Juanita Phillips of Kincaid, Mrs. Eunice Coleman of Gary, Indiana, and Mrs. Catherine Martin of Chicago. Step-daughter Gladys Sims of Taylorville. Four sons, Lawson, Merle and Phillip of Taylorville and Everett of Spartansburg, South Carolina. He also leaves 23 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents, wives, brother and sisters and two infant daughters, Eva and Zelma Hawkins.
Visitation id 7 o'clock until the time of the service. Shafer's Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements, burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev Charles Day from the Davis Memorial Church officiating. Pall Bearers were DavidPhillips, Fanny Phillips, Darrell Hawkins, Darrell Taylor, Harold Jones and Challie Landers.
